Reddit user IUsuallyDoWhatIWant was on the lake with some friends to do some fishing when they noticed something in the distance.
“While searching for some deep fishing holes we saw in the distance, what appeared to be a deer swimming in the lake. Upon closer inspection we discovered a baby deer struggling to stay afloat in 6-7 ft waters. It was clearly near drowning and we knew it wouldn’t last much longer on its own. We decided to step in.”
Here’s the complete story with pictures.
See that dot in the distance? That’s a baby deer.
They’re getting closer.
It must’ve been out there for hours.
It looks totally exhausted.
Still trying to get closer.
How did it get here anyway?
Now they are right beside the baby deer.
At this point the deer had almost no energy left.
They found a rope to cast to the deer.
No luck on the first try.
There we go!
The deer can’t be out there much longer or else.
Pulling the deer aboard.
This poor deer was clearly exhausted.
They tried to dry it off as much as they could.
It was just thankful to be alive.
It was very calm because it was now safe and because it had no energy left.
It was starting to warm up.
The poor thing was soaked to the bone.
The original poster said there were two baby deer stranded when they first went out on the lake.
But the other couldn’t hold on until they made it out there.
Starting to look better!
They got it back to shore.
What amazing people!
At first the deer couldn’t walk.
So they carried it all the way to the forest.
It went and hid under a car to rest and gain some strength.
Not long after, it ran off into the woods!
